about us

Little Dots Creative is a place where moms, dads and caregivers can come together to meet new friends, laugh with old ones and create lasting memories with their little ones. It is our mission to create a safe and welcoming environment for those about to enter motherhood, those just starting their journey, and those who have been on this wild ride of parenthood for a while.

We know the transition to parenthood can be challenging - we’ve been there. We also know that friends, a welcoming community and regular social contact is necessary make it through those hard days. We wanted to create a safe space where you can bring your little ones, let your creativity (and theirs!) run free, and savour those precious moments with old and new friends alike.

Little Dots Creative has partnered with our friends at Hello Maker and Compass Rose Wellness to bring you a cozy, welcoming space to unwind, socialize and recharge. Bring the baby, grab a coffee, have some good conversations and create something you’re proud to say you made yourself. Some of you may arrive as strangers, but our hope is that you all leave as friends.

Meet the Team

Laura Datema
Founder & Director

Hi, I’m Laura. The founder and director of Little Dots Creative. This business is a culmination of a lifelong love of creative arts, an early music career, a family who were (and are!) diehard supporters of my creative dreams, and a dedication to supporting new families in the community.

It didn’t take me long in life to discover my love of the arts. I’ve been drawing, painting and creating since I was old enough to hold a paintbrush, selling my masterpieces to my oh-so-patient family at my backyard stand for a dime. My love of music also started early at age 4 when I started Suzuki violin lessons - little did I know (or my family!) where this would lead…

Fast forward many, many years, I have had the privilege of studying fine arts & design, as well as violin, piano, flute and music theory. I went on to teach violin and music theory, teaching the Suzuki method and preparing students for both Royal Conservatory of Music examinations and fiddling competitions.

Now as a mom of 4 under 5, I have worked in various family, prenatal and postpartum support roles since 2017, serving as a childbirth educator, labour & birth doula, perinatal and infant nutrition specialist and family support business owner. I am proud to bring my love of the arts and my avidity for serving local families together to bring you Little Dots Creative.
